MOUNTVIEW EXAMS JOINS STAGECOACH WILMSLOW FOR A WEEKEND OF EXAMS AND TALKS WITH PRINCIPAL EMMA OTWAY ABOUT THE SUCCESS OF THE SYLLABUSES

Mountview Exams was delighted to run a day and a half of exams with Stagecoach Wilmslow in mid-March, assessing over 100 young performers. Stagecoach Wilmslow chose to tackle our Group Performance assessments, where performers are given total creative freedom in their choice of material and how the work is staged. We always encourage the performers themselves to bring their own ideas and collaborate on the assessment material, and this was very apparent in what our examiners saw.
Stagecoach Wilmslow also gave many performers the opportunity to be assessed as an Individual within a Group Performance, where their solo contribution towards the group is assessed independently. These performers demonstrate their performance skills within the group piece and then sit down with the examiner following the performance to reflect on their work and rehearsal process.

We also had the chance to talk to the principal of Stagecoach Wilmslow, Emma Otway, who is an experienced teacher and practitioner of Musical Theatre. She talks about how the ‘flexibility that comes with the examination process means that it really caters for everybody in the school’ and that the syllabus allows the students the ‘time to have fun with their characters’.
